So perhaps you’ve just finished up at university, or you’ve been working for a bit and you’re ready to take that long-planned break you’ve been waiting for, whatever the circumstances may be that have led you to this point, the fact is: you’re embarking on a legendary travel gap year!

Taking several months to travel is a brave and exciting endeavour, and while there’s a lot of unexpected things to look forward to (and spontaneity will be an intrinsic part of your adventure!) travelling requires a lot of responsible planning. But a bit of preparation doesn’t have to stop the fun! Especially when we’re here to help. So we put together some of the crucial items you’ll need to make sure you’ve got before embarking on your journey.

From the ‘fits all’ bag to the compact entertainment you’ll need for all that time spent on transport, this is your guide to getting started. So have fun packing, and don’t forget to send us a postcard!

Backpack

Durable, appropriately sized, and with a number of compartments to store everything needed- these travel bags tick all the boxes.

Trainers/ Sandals

Because you’re bound to need one of both.

Speakers/ Headphones

While most of travelling is a joy, the more mundane time spent on trains or in airports could use a little joyous distraction. That’s where headphones come in. Keeping up with current affairs via podcasts and listening to new music will help keep the home-sickness a little at bay. For get-togethers with new friends, a portable speaker will also come in handy.

Camera

For the moments worth capturing (essentially everything), a camera is vital for your time abroad.

Wash Bag

Something you’ll be so grateful to have later on.
