Of all the things we do for the ‘gram – snapping our avo and toast, scouting out the coolest cafes and posing in front of colourful flower walls included – transforming our bedrooms into an Instagram dream is far from the most ridiculous want. Afterall, we spend almost all our time in our rooms, why not make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible?
The question of ‘how’ is a little harder though: how can we transform an entire room without breaking the bank or cluttering our space? The key is picking up a few standout items – items that will draw the eye or create small, well designed nooks. Think a little side table for holding pretty odd bits; an artful stack of books, a dish for pieces of jewellery, or a vase of flowers. Alternatively, organising your clothes on a clothes rack rather than in a wardrobe, colour coordinating your desk space, curating your bookshelves or installing a gallery wall can have the same effect.
Sounds hard? It doesn’t have to be. The simplest way to achieve that ‘Instagram aesthetic’ is buying one or two eye-catching pieces. Our favourite Instagrammers love bold mirrors, layering bedding and filling their rooms with houseplants.

Perhaps the easiest home transformation tip is simply to invest in some new bedding, whether your style is bright colours, bold designs or paired back, boho vibes. Layer up with interesting throws and pillows to make your bed even more of a focal point. The tip is to go for a mixture of textures, clashing colours and quirky designs for ultimate interest.
One of the easiest ways to get the Instagram look in your room is with items you probably already own: a bookshelf and books. Rearrange your books into an aesthetically pleasing rainbow and adorn with interesting knick-knacks such as candles, trinkets, jewellery holders and photo frames. It looks great for minimum effort.
Key to any great Instagrammable room is it’s amount of greenery. Plant queens like @emilyjanelathan are known for their devotion to the green stuff, filling their spaces with house plants and succulents. Don’t have a green thumb? Opt for fake plants instead.
As the old saying goes, an ordered space equals an ordered mind. Cut down on clutter and refine your workspace with a great desk lamp, stationery and paper organisers, pretty notepads and a pencil case for all your pens. For the ultimate cohesion, colour coordinate pieces – we like bright white offset with metallics and pops of colour.
Mirrors are a great way to open up a room and make it feel brighter. Instagrammers are loving everything from oversized, round mirrors (@lucywilliams02) to retro, vintage styles (@_jessicaskye), and angular, metal designs (@chloeplumstead).
Another key feature of Instagrammer’s décor is the gallery wall. Again, it looks like putting one together requires more effort than it actually does – simply collect interesting prints, photos and postcards and find photo frames for them all. Make sure you lay them all out and plan your wall before putting in those nails though!
